Obtain a copy of you credit score

This is great for understanding just how bad the situation is. By doing so, you will be able to check to see if any judgments have been raised against you in error. If they have you should be able to get these removed which will improve your score straight away.

Avoid applying for finance that are not required

Every time you apply for a loan, a store card or any other type of finance your score is checked. Each time your score is checked it can have a negative effect. To ensure you minimise this effect be careful not to apply for too many forms of finance, only apply when it is absolutely necessary.

Do not max out your cards

Believe it or not being in debt can be good for your experian score. One of the calculations that go into your score is the amount of debt you have compared to the credit limits you have. This actually makes sense. If you have a $25, 000 limit on your mortgage facility and have it maxed out you are more likely to default than if you had a $50, 000 limit with the balance at $25, 000 right?

The key here is not to always max out your overdraft or loan facilities. Try and only use store cards only for essential items and do not give in to impulse purchases. Try instead to plan and budget your spending.

Repair your credit score

If you repair your score you will be more able to make your credit good. The first step to repairing your score is to reduce the amount of debts you have. If particularly bad you may need to take further repair action.
